Grant scheme extended to include self-employed taxi and private hire drivers

Self-employed taxi and private hire drivers licenced with East Hampshire District Council that live outside the district and have not been able to obtain a grant from the local authority they live in can apply now for an Additional Restrictions Grant.

Some local rules will have excluded drivers that are licenced outside the area where they live, making them unable to qualify for financial support.

These drivers must be able to demonstrate that they have been significantly affected by business closures during either the local Tier Four restrictions that were in force for the period 26 December 2020 to 4 January 2021 or the national lockdown restrictions that came into force on 5 January 2021.

Successful applicants will receive £500 for the first 28 days and £250 for every 14 days after that (subject to grant funding being available).

Councillor Charles Louisson, Finance portfolio holder for East Hampshire District Council, said: “The national lockdown and tier four restrictions will have had a significant impact on the income of many self-employed taxi and private hire drivers.

“We are committed to helping our local businesses in any way we can, and I’m pleased that we have been able to extend the ARG scheme in this way.”
