Big news from East Hampshire District Council
Smashing news! Fortnightly glass collections from October
On Thursday (18 July) our Cabinet agreed plans which will make glass recycling much easier for residents and solve the problem of overflowing bottle banks.

From October 2024, glass collections from households will double from every four weeks to fortnightly. This will be in line with the start of new bin calendars for October 2024 to September 2025. Communal glass bins in shared accommodation or flats will also be emptied fortnightly.
We’ll also be removing the skip-sized bottle banks around the district. Some will be replaced by smaller bins for the short-term but they will be removed completely by January 2025. As was already the case, we’re happy to take more than one glass box from homes, and these can be purchased through our website.
Glass is a great material for recycling as it can be made into new glass products again and again. Some glass ends up in people’s recycling or household waste bins, so collecting more frequently should mean that more glass is recycled in the district.
Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said:  “This will be a really positive change for residents and for the environment.  “The problems we have had in keeping the skip-sized bottle banks emptied and clear of abandoned bottles are well documented. “Once fully implemented, this solution is more convenient to residents and will end the problem of abandoned bottles completely.”  Find out more about the changes
