Youth Football Pitches

Several years ago, Headley Parish Council identified the potential future availability of grant funds arising from housing development levies in the surrounding area. The Council consulted with the sports clubs using the facilities at Mill Lane to hear what was needed and how these funds could be used. One of the many requirements was for more junior and youth football pitches because of the growing popularity of youth football with boys and girls in Headley.

HPC then entered negotiations with the Diocese of Guildford to lease the disused field next to the tennis courts. This took a while, but eventually the lease was obtained and funding from EHDC was secured. This enabled work to commence: levelling, fencing and preparing the playing surface.
In addition to three new youth pitches, 30 additional much-need car parking spaces were created and bike racks will be installed.
You may wonder why it is sometimes referred to as “Field 6”. This was the “working title” during negotiations, and it seems to have stuck!

By the summer of 2024 everything was in place: fences, gates and stiles built; the pitch levelled, sown and top-dressed; car parking spaces surfaced and everything was ready for the first games!
It is important to note that this field is reserved exclusively for youth football practice and games. For the safety of the young players no dogs are allowed on the pitch. We respectfully ask that dog walkers make use of the many alternative grassy areas around the playing fields for exercise.
